"In the world I see....you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned super-highway." - Chuck Palahniuk
"It is always simply a matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Hitler's propaganda chief Herman Goerring ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- last of vacation, presidential religious quotes, links ugh, I'm tired. Yesterday wasn't that great of a day. I got to work and my tea had somehow soured and I didn't know until I had taken a HUGH thirsty chug. Made dinner last night and didn't know the milk used in it had gone bad until I took a HUGH hungry bite and had been chewing. This made baby go back out and get something else to cook at 2am.........so we didn't get to bed until almost 6am!!! Needless to say, my belly doesn't feel too happy today. Well, I've honestly covered all of the mundane highlights of our vacation for the most part........um.........the 3 cats drove us bug-shit. Everytime you walked into a room something "meow'd". We fucking walked right out our door without packing baby's Interferon shot. She took it as soon as we got home Monday am, but she still hasn't recouperated from it. Normally she takes it on Friday evening, so she was late almost 3 days. Never doing that again. We met my parents next-door neighbor and we ADORE her! She's the cutest, teeniest 90-something year old korean woman & she's a little spit-fire! She came over on Wednesday and insisted that we have a late lunch with her on Sunday before we head out. We did and altho it made us so terribly late getting home...we had a wonderful time. Her fucking house is so huge that I swear if we wondered off we'd get lost in that thing. She has the sweetest 1 year old male Pom named Tubby. He's the biggest one I've ever seen in that breed. No, he's not over-weight. Just really spoiled. He has his own couch and love seat. Literally. She has seperate living room furniture. She made the best food in the world and we ate until we were ill. -------------------------------------------------------------------- FAITH OF OUR FOREFATHERS "The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian Religion" - Treaty of Tripoli, signed by President John Adams [From the writings of Thomas Jefferson] "The whole history of [the Gospels] is so defective and doubtful, evidence that parts have proceeded from an extraordinary man; and that other parts are of the fabric of very inferior minds. History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own I am of a sect by myself, as far as I know." [From the writings of James Madison] "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution What influence in fact have ecclesiastical establishments had on Civil Society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the Civil authority; in many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny: in no instance have they been seen as the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wished to subvert the public liberty, may have found an established Clergy convenient auxiliaries. The establishment of the chaplainship to Congs. is a palpable violation of equal rights, as well as of Constitutional principles. . . Religious proclamations by the Executive [branch] recommending thanksgivings & fasts are shoots from the same root. . . Altho' recommendations only, they imply a religious agency, making no part of the trust delegated to political rulers."9:42 p.m. - Thursday, Jun. 09, 2005
